Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory

Ancestors of the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte were military allies of the British Crown. In recompense for the loss of the homeland villages from earlier conflicts and in recognition of their faithful military alliance, the British Crown allowed the Mohawks to select lands on the north shore of Lake Ontario for settlement. These lands were not unknown to Mohawk ancestors as they were part of a vast northern territory controlled by the Six Nations Confederacy prior to the Royal Proclamation of 1763.

Greater Napanee

Napanee is "one of Ontario's prettiest towns", with Loyalist roots, and a fine stock of well-preserved 19th century architecture (Visit Allan Macpherson House and the Lennox & Addington County Museum). Napanee is the bustling main street hub of the Napanee River Valley, close to the Bayshore town of Deseronto, and the historic Lakeside village of Bath. The town is the former haunt of First Prime Minister Sir John A. Macdonald, and the proud present-day hometown of superstar Avril Lavigne!
